I see this is a Netflix Limited Series and so I want to say that the STORY is four stars for me, but I like Harlan Coben's writing so much that I cannot give his work in this book a five. I am able to follow a story that jumps around in time, events, among a large number of characters and I did fine with that, but I kept putting the book down out of sheer exhaustion because it did not grab me consistently. There were moments I cared about various characters but my connection was not sustained. This is a story of Matt, who intends to break up a fight after a college party and kills a guy. It's about how he tries to make his way through life after prison. It's about an advanced degree that does not get Matt a prestigious career like his brother's career; a wife who turns out to have some deep secrets; a murdered nun who came to her convent under "false pretenses;" and lots of surprises from the past and the present. It's a really good book that needed further revising for flow and attention. Just saying.

I was quite enjoying this until the last 50 pages or so when it suddenly became totally unbelievable and ridiculous

3.5 Stars. Not bad but not his best. Unlike the other books I’ve read by him, it took me awhile to get into this one. There were a lot of characters to keep track of but it was impressive to see how it all came together.

This is such a great thriller! We listened on a long car trip, and were wide awake the whole time. If you like suspense and twisty plots, this is the book for you.

Great whodonit with lots of twists and turns. I listened to this one on Audible and had a bit of a hard time keeping characters straight at times because some of them are flatter than others. The central mystery was intriguing and kept me reading. Can't wait to discuss at book club.

Murder mystery involving an ex-con and his wife and their past. read this in between a couple of other books, for a brief escape, and it served its purpose well. Had picked it up at a library booksale; It's pretty dated - the technology they use gives it away - but a fun, fast and easy read. Only a couple of days' worth.
