This books offers so many wonderful opportunities! The two-sentence short stories are cute and enjoyable, and the illustrations really compliment the text. Children will enjoy interacting with the book and using the pictures to create the middle of the story. Older children may be inspired to build on the short stories and write their own stories, and teachers could use the book in writing lessons. Overall, this book is wonderful!
The only drawback to this book is there is so much "story" jam-packed on each page of illustrations, it might be difficult for children to see the pictures during a storytime. Their imaginations will still fill in the blanks, even if they can't see what the pictures are suggesting happens. I'm sure it will still be a hit in storytime, regardless if children can see all the details.

What a fun book! Filled with extremely short stories that a beginner can read, and paired up with illustrations that aid in telling and expanding upon the story, this book easily succeeds in its set-up. With great colors, intriguing illustrations, and at times humorous stories, One Day is a creative and engaging book, perfect for someone learning what a narrative arc is. Great for grades K-2.

This is an endearing read for its lesson about the power of pictures. Besides for adorable illustrations and a nostalgic, yet humourous tone, the book also stands on its subtle message about how small changes make a big difference and its less subtle message on the incredible opportunities for imagination and kindness in mundane life.

When I saw that this won the Horn Book Award, I decided to check this out, along with Dotlich's Knowing Book. The illustrations in this book are so vibrant, and "busy"; you would want to be sure that students have a chance to see all the action.

My ONLY reservation about this engaging story-starting powerhouse is that kids may find the words hard to read.

Love the idea of using this as a mentor text for narrative writing.

I loved this book! So sweet, simple, and delightful. The spare text telling the beginning and end of a story paired with illustrations that fill in the middle with charm readers. Would be a good mentor text to talk about narrative or value of illustrations.
