I read this book while I was on vacation and it kind of made me miss my own dog, Colby Jack. When I started reading this book, I liked it more than I thought I would. But by the end, I liked it slightly less than when I started. I don't know if that makes sense.
I liked the basic storyline, and even the supporting romantic plotline, and how minor characters were brought into the story.
The main character got on my nerves though. I got quite weary of her coffee stained clothes, tossing things in cupboards and closets to fake house clean, adding vodka to everything and getting drunk repeatedly, and basically just not really seeming to act like an adult. I'm not saying those people don't really exist. I am saying I don't like reading about a character who can't get her crap together for the duration of an entire book. Because it wasn't like it was a singular, noteworthy episode. It wasn't in response to some event from which she was going to emerge better than before. I think that's just how she is, and it was annoying to me.
But her dog seems nice.

Really cute book. Loved the romance and the dog. Kind of hated all the rich snobs, even if they turned out ok in the end. I don't like the romance plot of a couple splitting up for half the book, but other than that, enjoyed this one.

I liked this book, but I tend to like these kinds of stories, as one reviewer put it, they are "brain candy" and definitely a chick-lit type book. I read it because a friend said it was very "Something Borrowed", which I could see but in SB Emily Giffin did a great job of deconstructing a friendship that a lot of people could relate to. In "Stay" it's more "I'm poor and my best friend is mega-rich and that is the main reason why the love of my life married her." Literally, that's the story.
Also, I could not figure out:
A. Why Van is in love with Peter in the first place. He's a snob and a jerk.
B. How Janie never figured it out.
C. Why does Van make the DUMBEST decisions which are so easily avoidable. The scene at the party where she is completely in-articulate and lies to Alex for no reason was just annoying.
D. Somebody writes me a check for $175 K - I'm taking it straight to the bank.
E. Van is "so mad" at Janie, but besides her unknowingly "stealing" Peter, Janie seems to have been a great friend to Van and definitely loves her.

It was a pretty easy read that didn't require much thought (sometimes it's nice to read those types of books between heavier reading). The story was somewhat predictable and the end tied up a little too nicely for me (but I suppose making it more complex might have made it a less breezy read).

This book was pretty good. I found the main character pretty easy to identify with.
It was the resolution I had a problem with, because it basically wasn't one. The resolution with the mom, that is. It was just kind of, 'Well, she is the way she is, and we'll just have to get along as best we can.'
But I suppose that wasn't really the important part anyway--the growth of the character was the important part. She gained a better understanding of herself and the people around her, and it was interesting to find a book that put that over tying everything up in a neat ribbon and saying, 'All better!'
I did like how the romance tied up, though. Very satisfying.

This book was really sweet, with a great heroine who always seems to land in trouble. Ordering a dog off the internet without knowing what she was spending or getting into is only the beginning. Fortunately it ends with a Happily ever After!

I loved this book! At the beginning I thought it was going to be a fairly typical chick-lit book, but after the first quarter or so I was hooked. It has a lovable (but not anthropomorphized) dog, fun characters, and valuable things to say about how friendships change as we grow. I really enjoyed it and would read it more than once. I look forward to Larkin's next book!

This was such a beautiful, unexpected read for me. I loved how I could see myself in Van and caught myself smiling while reading it. The writing was amazing and made me feel like I was a part of the book. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves dogs.
