Stay by Allie Larkin

I liked this book, but I tend to like these kinds of stories, as one reviewer put it, they are "brain candy" and definitely a chick-lit type book. I read it because a friend said it was very "Something Borrowed", which I could see but in SB Emily Giffin did a great job of deconstructing a friendship that a lot of people could relate to. In "Stay" it's more "I'm poor and my best friend is mega-rich and that is the main reason why the love of my life married her." Literally, that's the story.
Also, I could not figure out:
A. Why Van is in love with Peter in the first place. He's a snob and a jerk.
B. How Janie never figured it out.
C. Why does Van make the DUMBEST decisions which are so easily avoidable. The scene at the party where she is completely in-articulate and lies to Alex for no reason was just annoying.
D. Somebody writes me a check for $175 K - I'm taking it straight to the bank.
E. Van is "so mad" at Janie, but besides her unknowingly "stealing" Peter, Janie seems to have been a great friend to Van and definitely loves her.
