The first in this series that I've read and so I didn't know the characters or their relationships to each other, their pasts, etc. My fault in picking up number 54 in a series. I guess it works ok as a standalone but there's so many characters that I quickly got bored of trying to remember who was who and where they fit in.
Story was ok but slowed down a lot when the main character spent pages and pages hypothesising with her partner, then going over the same detail with her husband. Felt a little uneccessarily padded out.
Probably would be appreciated a lot more by someone who's familiar with the series, hence the high ratings.

Thanks to NetGalley & the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Fifty-four books in and still awesome, still feels fresh. Not sure how she does it.

Crazy good! A little different from the other books (the “before” and “now” parts). Still can’t get over the fact that this series is still so interesting after 54 books!

If you like this series, you are going to like this book. I think I have said this many times before in regard to this series. Afterall, this is #54. So what more can I say without just discussing the details of the book and giving it all away. But I know what I'm going to get in this series and it's a safe comfortable read for me. For anyone that wants to dip their toe into the world of Lt. Eve Dallas start with the first several books in the series before you begin to jump around. There are some big nuggets that create the foundation of characters.

#54 in the 'In Death ' series and it still is going strong. Robb writes a futuristic police procedural that always is full of murder, romance and suspense.

Eve is called to a murder site at a park near her oldest friends new house. Someone has killed a 'bad mommy ' and Eve is mad because it's so near to home. Who is doing this and how long will the others he has be kept alive? How close will this one hit to the NYPD.

Always enjoy catching up with Eve and the gang. Feels like visiting old friends. On to #55.

😊 Happy Reading 😊

Flipping between past and present, the latest of the "In Death" series starts with a young mother at the end of her tether and then her now-grown-up-son who just wants to replace her. And he's doing so by kidnapping women who look similar to her. When these women fail to live up to his expectations though, he kills the "bad mommy."
Eve is brought into the story when the first body is found at a playground not far from Mavis and Leonardo (and Peabody and MacNab's) new house. They are still going full bore on renovations and the proximity shakes Dallas. There seems to be no sign that any of her friends will be affected but she doesn't want to take that chance.
I don't remember another book in this series doing a similar thing with the past and the present overlapping in the same book (especially while rotating through third person narration with both Eve and one of the victims) but, then again, after fifty-three books, I definitely don't remember them all. It's not a favorite plot device of mine but I appreciated Robb trying something new and it worked for this particular book, especially give who the killer ended up being.
