Shocker, ancient story is not my thing in current day 2024. It's like an ok story about some guy who kills a ladys uncle and then dates her.

3,5 étoiles. Parfois trop lente, parfois trop rapide, ce roman je ne sais pas comment raconter une histoire. Cependant, l'entier vaut plus que les parties individuelles. C'est un beau conte d'amour qui dure depuis des siècles. Une tragédie, sans aucun doute, mais souvent c'est les tragédies qui nous touchent le plus.

Read for masters course in Literature, so this review will take an academic bent. My rating is purely based on my enjoyment level of the text.

The value of this reading comes instead in how we can use it to examine the psychology of romance in Western literature and culture as influenced by the lore of Tristan and Iseult. This text pre-dates Romeo and Juliet by aproximately 300 years. It is certainly the primary inspiration for the repeated theme of star-crossed lovers within Romeo and Juliet and within the romance genre as a whole. What I found most interesting was the theme of abandonment of autonomy in the pursuit of romantic love, and how romance served as a purifying force for all actions committed by the lovers to the point that they committed serious betrayals of trust to those around them but instead were deified for their actions rather than vilified for them.

Love is heart-wrenching beauty, uncontrollably beautiful and hurtful - with its ups and downs, from drunken rapture-like moments, to mad despair, shattering and howling. Love that leads to lies, bitter pain and unqeunchable longing.
Anyone who've ever loved, should read this book.

همانند دیگر رمان‌های عشق ممنوعه، تریستان و ایزوت نباید عاشق یکدیگر شوند و عشق آنها ممنوعه است،و مثل همه این نوع داستان‌ها صلع سوم مثلث عشقی را در این میان شاه تشکیل می‌دهد.
تریستان پهلوان کشور است و به دلیل اینکه اژدهایی که در کشور تریستان همین طور ول ول می‌گردد و مزاحم امنیت مردم است را می‌کشد شایستگی همسری ایزوت را پیدا می‌کند.البته در این میان ماجراهای بسیاری در جریان است. فرق عشق تریستان و ایزوت با بقیه داستان‌های این سبکی، داشتن ته‌مایه‌های پهلوانی در داستان است. و اینکه آن دو هیچ چاره‌ای جز عشق یکدیگر ندارند، چون به واسطه‌ی معجونی که تریستان به اشتباه نوشیده است(معجون عشق) آن دو محکوم به عشق یکدیگرند.

در آخر داستان هم به خاطر حسادت اطرافیان هر دو می‌میرند.

داستان کشش مناسب و فضای داستانی جذابی دارد، اتفاقات در ترتیبی الزاما منطقی پیش نمی‌روند، و اینکه ترجمه خوب مترجم عزیز کزازی، باعث روان بودن و جذابیت هرچه بیشتر این اثر قدیمی شده.
