Vera Stanhope is called down to a village in Yorkshire to revisit a murder case after new evidence proves the killer is still at large. Though average doesn’t take to the different countryside, I love the setting and atmosphere of this novel, and Vera is always wonderful company. I don’t think I’ll ever tire of her calling people ‘pet’. One jarring moment (not murder related; we’re expecting that) was when a female character described as old starts to plan her FIFTIETH birthday. Other than that, it was a delight as always. The audiobook is the way to go for best enjoying the accents.

Vera at the top of her game. No need to say any more.

I've found that reading these Vera novels takes more attention than some of the other authors I read, but it is well worth it. This one was a little easier for me than #1.

Another audio— I plan on listening to the whole series. The narrator has been good. The stories have kept me engaged and I am enjoying learning more about Vera.

3⭐️ = Average.
Audio.
This is the second in the series and I will say that it’s a lot better than the first.
Vera, a series based on this character, is an extremely popular detective series here in the UK. I’m going to get gasps from a lot of you when I say that I’m not a huge lover of Vera, as she always irritates me a little.😮 Saying that, I adore the part of the country where this is set.
I was hoping the books would be a better option for me…mmmm…not so sure now.
I have to admit that the last quarter of the book was quite engaging and my interest spiked.

Thoroughly enjoyed this. And what a twist. It was certainly a change from the Tyne and I get the feeling it wasn't painted in a favourable light. Her dislike and distrust of the 'Yorkies' was evident. But another ripping good yarn from Ann Cleeves.

A bit at a loss as to what to read next.

Another great one to listen to while waking, driving, knitting, cooking.
