This book was more romance and less fantasy/adventure. It was a bit repetitive and predictable at times, but I enjoyed it for what it was and I am definitely looking forward to the next book!

for once i was able to predict what i assume was meant to be a big plot-twist and have readers shocked, which i usually cant... however, i still enjoyed the book and reading the relationship between paedyn and kai. im a sucker for romantasy

Paedyn has killed the king and set off a rebellion. Kitt has taken over as king after his father and his first task is to have his brother Kai - the Enforcer - find and capture Paedyn. She needs to pay for her crime.

There's not a lot of action in this book, like it was in the first, but it doesn't mean it isn't good. Paedyn manages to evade Kai for some time, but eventually she has to accept her fate and go with him - unless she wants to kill him. And despite trying to convince herself that she hates him, she just can't do it.

During their journey back to Ilya they both express contempt and scornful comments to each other, but since there's dual POV's we know how they actually fight against the attraction, trying to hate one another. But you can't control your feelings and I like how they open up to each other and risk being vulnerable. Reveals are being made and they both have to revalue their lifes. It will be very interesting to see how it develops in the last book.

We get some chapters from Kitt's POV, but I don't think it adds very much. His plan for Paedyn still comes as a surprise in the end (at least for me) and I'm still not sure how I feel about it.

This definitely had that Middle Book Feeling where it seems like a lot happens, but nothing really happens at the same time. Like, there’s tons of action and drama and witty banter—which I totally LOVED—but the plot really isn’t moved along until the last chapter, which I kinda saw coming. Though I have questions. And despite the lack of overall plot furthering, I am absolutely consumed with Kai and Paedyn’s relationship. I can already feel the angst and longing that Book 3 is sure to drag out, and I don’t like it. Lol

This book had so much hype building up to its release, that I was eagerly waiting to see what would happen next, I would normally say that maybe I built it up too much, but this time I just think it needed more time and more substance.
Throughout the whole book, there is absolutely no plot, it is just a cat-and-mouse chase that turns into an 'I hate you, I love you' fight and has no real high stakes that it needs.
I understand the author said it was a bridging book but for a trilogy, it could've still been that and had a plot to follow. I barely ever see a second book in a series that is shorter than the first.
Over 300 pages of nothing. The only reason it has the rating it does is because the 5 star first book got me attached to the characters.
