Paedyn has killed the king and set off a rebellion. Kitt has taken over as king after his father and his first task is to have his brother Kai - the Enforcer - find and capture Paedyn. She needs to pay for her crime.

There's not a lot of action in this book, like it was in the first, but it doesn't mean it isn't good. Paedyn manages to evade Kai for some time, but eventually she has to accept her fate and go with him - unless she wants to kill him. And despite trying to convince herself that she hates him, she just can't do it.

During their journey back to Ilya they both express contempt and scornful comments to each other, but since there's dual POV's we know how they actually fight against the attraction, trying to hate one another. But you can't control your feelings and I like how they open up to each other and risk being vulnerable. Reveals are being made and they both have to revalue their lifes. It will be very interesting to see how it develops in the last book.

We get some chapters from Kitt's POV, but I don't think it adds very much. His plan for Paedyn still comes as a surprise in the end (at least for me) and I'm still not sure how I feel about it.

This definitely had that Middle Book Feeling where it seems like a lot happens, but nothing really happens at the same time. Like, there’s tons of action and drama and witty banter—which I totally LOVED—but the plot really isn’t moved along until the last chapter, which I kinda saw coming. Though I have questions. And despite the lack of overall plot furthering, I am absolutely consumed with Kai and Paedyn’s relationship. I can already feel the angst and longing that Book 3 is sure to drag out, and I don’t like it. Lol

i kinda skimmed the majority of this book bc it could not keep my attention. it fell flat for me and could've been 200 pages shorter. maybe it would've been better if it was slapped into the beginning of the next book, who knows. there was zero plot and the romantic leads were practically having the same argument for 80% of the book while trudging across the contient 💀 also, for goodness sake PLEASE SEARCH UP SYNONYMS OMG !! if i ever see "ocean eyes" of the word "pretend" again i'm going to combust grrrr

anyway, the last little bit of the book was better, so yes i will continue with the series bc i want to know what will happen at the end. however, it's safe to say that my expectations will not be very high at all.
