I think I'm done with this series. The author tries too hard to make it cool.
This book was a ton of fun; lots of great ideas bouncing around and new concepts I felt got explored very well. I felt the character development was well done, and I'm excited to see where the next book goes.
The Sandman Slim series is kind of my guilty pleasure, and I do enjoy the ride...but they tend to be very action packed and light on character development. And the beautiful witticisms tend to be repeated across the series, making them land lighter on each reoccurrence. That said the third in the series, I think, is the best of the bunch. The best story, with good character arcs, and the least amount of repeats.
This one was by a mile the craziest ride so far. I’m glad we got more of how hell operates and the angle vs hellion spat works. This book seemed a bit more graphic then the previous two, but no one bothered here. It does make me wonder how the next one will start because of Sharks current situation at the end. Next book is on my list and I’ll updated when I get to it.
Sandman Slim is back, acting remarkably civilized. Its been weeks since he has killed anyone, much less in a really bloody manner.
Then he finds out that his long-lost love has been taken hostage from Heaven and pulled into Hell as a hostage of the war to take over Hell and all bets all off. The war of his ex-comrade to take over both Heaven and Hell has gotten to very very personal. And Slim will do anything - even go back to Hell - to stop it and save his lost love.
Kadery manages to raise the stakes of in this novel - making it even more action packed and bloody then the previous ones (as promised, and difficult to believe); and the twist at the end sets it up for a great refreshing next novel.

A little bit more complexity and a higher page count than the previous Sandman Slim novels, and some concepts get a bit too heady. However, the prose remains readable and the plot gains momentum from the second act on.

Not as good as the first two, but still freaking good! James Stark, let us marry.
This had a simple enough premise of a "go to Hell to save a loved one," although of course for Stark it was a return trip and it wasn't as if he's trying to save Alice from death.
The ending is what really did this for me. There were some predictable bits here and there, but I did not see the ending coming at all. Definitely some big changes for the series to come.
