Still enjoying this series. It's gritty and unapologetic.

Hurrah for more adventures with Stark, Sandman Slim, Jim, and Lucifer. Oh yeah, and the Gods - not necessarily in that order! Excellent extension of the Sandman story when he heads to Hell intending to sort out his arch nemesis once and for all and save Alice's soul .... dragging his Angel self along for the ride. Can't wait to get my hands on the next one!

As always enjoyed every bit of this Sandman Slim novel

I wasn't expecting that ending!
I'm enjoying the series but it's time to read books that have been collecting dust in my home.
I'll get back to this storyline later.

I was in a mood to be angry and vengeful, and this is a good series if you want to watch everything burn. It's a bit more edge-lordy than I remember the first two being, but that might be that I'm getting old XD I was not a fan of the ending though. I don't think that it felt honest to how the story was going. I needed more build up, I think.

Things that were fun:

-The crew. Everyone you know from the first books makes an appearance and are still a good time.

-Alice. Glad this was dealt with.

-Story. It's a bop. It's [insert a movie about assassins and explosions] but with demons.

Things I felt were less impressive:

-The end. I didn't see a strong enough line to connect these dots.

-Pathos. It's always strong on the melodrama, but the self loathing on this one was a bit over the top.

I'll give the next book in the series a go, but this one let me down a bit.

This was my "guilty pleasure" choice for the Book Riot Read Harder challenge (quotation marks because I never feel guilt about what I like to read). The Sandman Slim series is a riot! So fun to read.

Loved the first book. Enjoyed the second book and then got very bogged down in this one.

After taking a break from it for a while, I returned to it and enjoyed the second half a fair amount more. In the end, I didn't like where the story went or the ultimate resolution. It's not a bad read, but I'm not going to recommend it like I would the first in the series.

It was ok. There were many times I found myself skimming just to make it move along. I really enjoyed the first novel but the rest in this series have just fallen a little flat for me. I have one more purchased so I may give it one more chance.

Another 3.5...
On one hand the series is starting to get a little redundant and I didn't find it funny as the first 2. On the other hand, I don't know very many series with this type of tone/vibe to them... that is, one of a (slightly cheesy) fantasy B-movie feel. I really liked all the references to punk rock (I picked up more so then the others) IE playing X's "the world's a mess, it's in my kiss" in his dream and the awesomely classy line "he thinks he's the holy trinity, God, Lucifer and G.G Alin". Note* the book shares it's title with a song by the Psychobilly band The Cramps.
As far as the story goes, there are still unbelievable twists and cameo's from crazy characters (I personally liked the debut of Mustang Sally, and kept imagining a real life Bayonetta in the role). As well as, the way Mason is dealt with seems appropriate. I don't know where Kadrey will take the next one.... I hope it funnier next time, I like his sense of humor.

A good ending to a good series, but clearly could be taken up again as well in later books. Not bad at all. I like that Stark moves on as a person - this is good.
