This is a fine book, but I didn't particularly enjoy it.

And now after my face to face bookclub I plan to read it again more carefully.

Is there any man in American history more crusted with political claptrap? Flexner's bio is marvelous in decrusting the man, while not vilifying him. I love this biography.

A fascinating biography about a truly heroic, honest man. I especially enjoyed reading about his early years and his presidential years.

I picked this book up at the Mount Vernon gift ship and was glued to it until the end. Normally a fan of fiction I was surprised at how taken I was with the book and Washington himself. I believe this has given me an entirely new genre to jump into and I couldn't be happier about that.

While I respect the work that Flexner has done, his inability to understand Alexander Hamilton and his refusal to set aside academically accepted predjudices of the man bothers me greatly.

However, he gives the reader a coheasive view of who George Washington - the man - was. And I think that is wonderful

Deeply interesting, if not entertaining, history of the man behind the myth. Full of his blunders and failures, strength, feeling, humility and even petty pride, Washington is portrayed ultimately as deeply human and often noble.

Good book.
Maybe I’m just not the reader for it. Been using it more like a reference book than a compelling narrative.
