A charming story that embodies basically every fangirl's dream --> to have their fairytale prince come to life. :D I loved this book. The only problem I really had was the ending.... It was fast and confused me a bit.

Expecting the very best, I was a bit disappointed... The premise of this book was phenomenal, and to know Jodi Picoult's daughter came up with it was intriguing! A fairy tale prince wants OUT of the story, and the Reader, Delilah, knows it and is willing to help him! If you are fond of fairy tales, or even just fond of the premise of true love (it IS out there, by the way), you will enjoy this book. It moves quickly, going from one character's point of view to another, and back to the original fairy tale, so there is no lag time between chapters. I'm so glad Jodi Picoult teamed up with Samantha Van Leer (her daughter) to write a YA book!

It's marked as YA only because the main character is 15, I think; the story and writing feel a lot more suited to the 10-12 age range, as long as they can tolerate the crush-iness between the main characters (don't worry, no make-out scenes).
Interesting main concept: characters in books have lives of their own after the cover is closed--kind of like 'Wreck It Ralph', only you can never leave your own game/book. Every time the book is read, the characters must go through the motions of the story all over again, but once the book is closed, this villain is actually a nice guy with a geeky hobby, those boy-crazy characters actually don't like men, and (in this case) the hero is tired of the endless repetition and wishes he could get out of the book. When one reader (who only wishes she could climb INTO the story) develops a fictional-character-crush on the hero-prince and starts repeatedly re-reading the story, the prince finds a way to speak with her and they both try to find a way to get him out of the book.
Fast read, fairly simple story, and a bit of fun with the real/private personalities of the different fairy tale characters. Nice, light adventure. I share other reviewers' irritation with one brief point where the protagonist notices certain characters dislike men and thinks 'omg, they're hard-core feminists?!'--I had to facepalm a bit there; that doesn't make you a feminist, it just means you dislike men. Other than that and a couple of plot choices (like the fire extinguisher--what the heck was that?) that I think only confirm this book's rightful place in pre-teen rather than YA shelves, it's a fairly decent casual read.

I first heard of this story through the musical that was written based on the story. I love Jodi Picoult and was excited to read this story. I think it's very sweet that she wrote it with her daughter.

While the story is very typical YA fiction, it still had some surprises. The characters felt more dimensional than the usual YA fare, and I greatly appreciated the lack of love triangle. I've read some criticism of the book that Delilah is dense and acts so dumb and, it's true. She does. But she is also a teenage girl jist trying to find a place to belong. And she finds it in a book and escapes. I related to Delilah in many ways and felt her very authentic to the teenage girl existence.

The child who still lives in me wanted their happily ever after to be the exact happily ever after they received (and the solution was just a tad bit obvious), but the logical adult in me dreaded that conclusion because I just couldn't imagine rooting against everyone else. Without Oliver, the story can't exist, and so everyone else would have been lost. The authors did a good job creating characters I cared about to be happy with that turn of events. Now, they did bring about the happily ever after in a way that leaves everyone happy, but how long can it last?

Overall, I loved this story. It moved fast and didn't feel repetative. I cant wait to check out the perusal of the musical next!

Oh my god, I don’t think I’ve ever related so hard to a book as I did with this one. Like it is about a girl who is obsessed with this one particular fairytale and falls in love with its hero only to discover that they can communicate with each other. Like what reader doesn’t dream about falling into a story or getting to be with their favorite book boyfriend. This was so cute, and I am very excited to see the musical inspired by it.

This was cute but also you need to ignore the very large plot holes. I cringed. A lot. Uhm I expected better lol. Once the book ended it made sense but I was also in a state of extreme confusion. Its very.. random let's say

What a wonderful story! At first, I thought this was going to be a childish story that was too young for a 22 year old to read. However, the story was amazing! I was immersed in it from page one. Highly recommend.
