Raine hears voices. While going through her Aunt's house, to put it on the market, she hears voices and following them discovers a woman duct taped in the basement. Zack sees visions. It turns out that Raine's Aunt did not die naturally and someone is out for Raine and Zack, but maybe not the same people.
I'm rounding up, but also think these would be better read in order.

This Arcane Society book had more substance than the previous "White Lies". I enjoyed these characters as well as the story. I may give the next Jayne Ann Krentz Arcane Society book a try - but I'm really looking forward to the Amanda Quick ones.

I finished the book in a day and it means that it became entertaining for me reading it. This is the 3rd book in the series and it can be read as a standalone since each book features different couples.
There was nothing surprising about the plot itself—nothing that stood out. Since it was my first time being in this world, I had a hard time understanding how the power system works…or maybe this was not the usual paranormal that I come across to that’s why I was not used to it.
Anyway, Raine is a strong and independent woman that is cautious and raises her protective instincts against other since she wanted to prevent being labeled as crazy. Due to her abilities, she had been called that a lot so she learned to be wary.
However, that changes when she meets Zack Jones. If soulmates was a thing in this story, they certainly were and had symptoms of it. There was instant attraction and the instinct to know if the other was in danger.
The story was fast paced in my opinion but not being unreasonable. We see Raine lower her guard and accept Zack while Zack learns to accepts his mistakes and step up within the Society.
The story wraps up with them being together (of course) and setting up the next plot for the sequel.

I love the Arcane Society novels. This one was a great blend of danger, mystery and romance.

I didn't think this was as good as the first two books. The characters didn't resonate with me as well as they should have. Raine had a rather emotionless air to her character, for understandable reasons, but it made it difficult to find her interesting. I loved her hobbies though, running a costume shop and working as a free consultant to the police, that's the stuff of successful crime tv dramas. Zack didn't seem to have any character depth. He just was, if that makes sense.
The plot seemed awkward. The main story was obvious, because that is whatever focuses on the Arcane Society, but the extra side plots seemed pointless. It felt like they were only there to fill space.
The romance seemed shallow compared to the first two books.
I think this one was a bit of a set up, like it's laying out more of the structure to the modern Arcane Society and introducing the characters who will be important to it later. It definitely feels like a plot building volume of the story.

I wish I had started the series in order but books 1&2 are in a box somewhere and I really wanted to read this book. Krentz’s books are almost always enjoyable, a little formulaic but I think that’s part of the appeal and the whole reason we’re reading it in the first place.

So far the best in the series for me when it comes to world building and getting to know the society and connecting everything. I truly love the interconnectedness.

Even better than the last one. This one, i can really see why the main characters connected the way that they did. yeah, of course there were time when both of them got on my nerves, but not as bad as the first book female character, Ventia, the many great grandmother to Zack.
