Sizzle and Burn by Jayne Ann Krentz

I didn't think this was as good as the first two books. The characters didn't resonate with me as well as they should have. Raine had a rather emotionless air to her character, for understandable reasons, but it made it difficult to find her interesting. I loved her hobbies though, running a costume shop and working as a free consultant to the police, that's the stuff of successful crime tv dramas. Zack didn't seem to have any character depth. He just was, if that makes sense.
The plot seemed awkward. The main story was obvious, because that is whatever focuses on the Arcane Society, but the extra side plots seemed pointless. It felt like they were only there to fill space.
The romance seemed shallow compared to the first two books.
I think this one was a bit of a set up, like it's laying out more of the structure to the modern Arcane Society and introducing the characters who will be important to it later. It definitely feels like a plot building volume of the story.
