This week’s book! I am now hooked on this murder mystery series! I finished the 3rd one today…Leave the Grave Green. I love the two Scotland Yard detectives, and the British history included in the books. If any of my friends are fans of Elly Griffith’s Ruth Galloway series, you will enjoy these as well.

I liked that Kincaid was in charge of the investigation in this novel, rather than being on the edges because of a personal connection to the crime. This isn't the best written book of all time by any stretch but it was entertaining. I feel that there was potential for it to be better but it just wasn't fleshed out. The killer's motivation seemed weak. I was thrilled at the Kinkaid/James coupling and the ending was enough to make me want to immediately pick up the 4th book.

Rating 2.4* out of 5. There isn't anything in particular wrong with this book - I just didn't enjoy any of it. Although I am now familiar with Superintenden Duncan Kincaid and Seargant Gemma James, I didn't feel that they moved in a positive direction here. I didn't really care about them and much less the other, less familiar characters.
The story begins with how Julia loses her little brother, the darling of her parents, in a drowning accident. Many years later her own husband, Connor Swann, is found in a Thames river lock and the past must come back to haunt them all.
I expected a nice little heart warming mystery and what I got was something that felt drab and uninteresting. I wanted desperately to like it and I will probably make another attempt at the series. I will be chosing my weekend reads more carefully in the future - at least the next couple of weeks, until I forget or simply am unlucky. "How to leave boring books as soon as possible" is clearly something I need to practice.

Oh boy. Gemma Gemma Gemma. And more so…DUNCAN DUNCAN DUNCAN.
My husband is always pleased when TV procedurals don’t get too much into the personal lives of the police. If you feel this way, skip this series. If you like a little interpersonal nonsense (and it really is palm-to-the-forehead inducing here), add this to your TBR list.

Officially giving up on this series. I just can't understand how the police tell all the suspects everything, they aren't discreet while making enquiries, they're gabbling on about everything they've discovered to everyone! Duncan relies heavily on instinct instead of much else. The final reveal is meh, it isn't even someone on their radar.
And so weirdly unprofessional, like Kincaid and Julia. Does Duncan crush on every female suspect that crosses his path (like in Book 1)? Wtf.
