Got to ration these carefully, not too many left in the series.

I wasn't so sure about this one, but by the end I loved it.

"It had, he thought, been well worth waiting for."

Roncewind goes a-waltzing matilda, mate. No worries.

Also, kangaroos, morphic field disruptions, space-time paradoxes, the god of evolution, the man who carries the universe in a sack, and Austral... I mean, 'EksEksEksEks', a place where water falling out of the sky is a myth.

But no worries. Mate. Good on yer.

I'd say this is one of those merely okay Discworld novels. It's funny, and it's got very good ideas, but it doesn't coalesce as well as some of the other ones.

I never have much to say about the Rincewind books, and I have even less to say about this one than usual. It was pretty amusing, and I even chuckled a loud a few times (basically, this book served its purpose to distract me from the fact that I was riding the noisy metro while I was reading it). But Rincewind's running-away-from-danger shtick is getting old at this point, and the plot of the Rincewind books are starting to sound the same to me.

I haven't read this book often, or in a while, but The Truth Shall Make Ye Fret podcast are covering it this month and I decided I wanted to keep up with the conversation so I got the audio book. I found this book really confusing when I first read it, maybe twenty years ago, and I am only marginally less confused. Not quite Bursar level confused, but confused enough. It doesn't have the subtlety of later Discworld books but is more sophisticated than the earlier books. The main plot is Rincewind has ended up in XXXX and meets a kangaroo who tells him he needs to break the drought. Meanwhile, the Librarian is ill and the Faculty of UU is desperate for a cure; the library has become dangerous without the Librarian to issue a sharp 'OOK' when the books misbehave. In their search for Rincewind, they end up trapped on Mono Island with the God of Evolution 30,000 years in the past.

I love this book, but I have to say that the AUDIO version has the worst narrator I've ever listened to. Just awful! Usually, Discworld books are narrated beautifully, but this one sucks. Don't listen to this one, read the regular book.
