Reading this as an adult was interesting for many reasons but the main ones were realising that id misremembered the kirren family as poor when really they own an island and reading two chapter before having to put the book down to frantically type "george kirrin gender" into jstor

It's a simple classic adventure book, make you feel like you're living 1980's simple lifestyle.

I found this audio version of a title from my childhood and thought I'd give it a whirl, just for the sake of nostalgia.
Looking back, I thought Enid Blyton's books were pretty dated when I first read them in the 1960's but I still love The Faraway Tree books and I'm fond of Noddy and Big Ears. Having said that, I was never a big fan of The Famous Five and in 2017 they are mostly cringe-worthy.
Time has not been kind!
