Okay.
I had no idea what was going on half of the time.
But I still love this.

Trigger Warnings

I am just speechless and wondering to myself why this book had to end so soon.

When I started this, I stayed up all night reading it, I regretted it in the morning, but I still stayed up to read it for 3 nights in a row for some reason.

There are not many books that have an average rating of five stars on Goodreads and as soon as I saw this, I knew I had to read it. This was so worth it.

Not one book has ever made me cry before (I'm not even joking) and this one did. That is one of the best compliments I have ever given a book.

I added this to my DNFs shelf but it was sort of a DNF.
Spoiler The first half just Keefe's detention records, how to pronounce the characters' names and more .
.
It was (sort of) a DNF in the sense that I basically skimmed through this and skipped straight to the second half.

First of all, it's 764 pages including the first half. I mean, that is ridiculous. One character should have gotten 2-3 pages maximum, not 20 pages.
That just makes it boring, since most people are not going to want to read Sophie's healing centre records unless they are huge KOTLC fans.
It could be two separate books or something or just a SHORTER first half but no, it had to be one book so that it shouldn't be able to fit in anyone's bags or something.

Forget about the size, it had to end with another cliffhanger.
I do not like cliffhangers, and this one frustrated me so much!
The last 4 books or something all ended with cliffhangers and I was really, really hoping that this would be different. But of course, we got another cliffhanger.
Sophie was almost unbearable in this one.
I've heard that the ninth book comes out in November 2021 and I do want to read that! I'm hoping it'll be cliffhanger free since it's the last book in the series right?
I don't expect much but I think I know what book 9 might be about!

Most of my favourite books get a review and this is definitely a book that I love. I just didn't get down to reviewing it.
My original rating was 5 stars. I've changed that to 4 stars now.

The characters were great and I feel that the author really captured how someone like Auggie might feel when people bullied him and made fun of him.

The way Via was described and how she behaved was exactly like someone who was having a hard time at school might be.
The only character I didn't really understand was Justin. His part didn't really change anything or add anything to the book.

On the other hand, you get a peek from Julian's point of view in the end too and I think that was honestly my favourite part of the whole book. It was so heartfelt and sweet.

I was expecting something a little darker and what I got was a lot happier and lighter than I thought it would be but it was still amazing!
August, on the other hand, was a little whiny sometimes I think?
Spoiler His mother spent hours making him a costume and he doesn't even wear it.
I guess that's fine because he was going through a lot.

I read this a long time back but I remember that in the end,
Spoiler Julian's grandmother gives us a little glimpse of her past. I felt that that would be better if she had started from the beginning, right when she started school or something like that.

Overall though, this was a great read and I absolutely adore it and I think it explores disability a little too.

Edit: I found out that this author has written a book, [b:White Bird|42898923|White Bird|R.J. Palacio|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1542765098l/42898923._SX50_.jpg|66683700], which is entirely about Julian's grandmere, so I'm happy.

Giving this book ONLY 5 stars feels like doing it a grave injustice, but, unfortunately, I can't rate it ten stars
