Beautiful prose that takes a life of its own as it swirls around the life of the central character, Phillip Bowman. I think the best way to describe the experience of reading this writing style is a bit like trying to follow water flowing in a small stream. You end up in little digressions and eddies until you realize you need to jump back to the main channel.
