Op vele lijsten van aanraders op Bookstagram wordt Piranesi vermeld. Dit wekte meteen interesse in me op, ook de cover en de mysterieuze titel droegen hieraan bij. Misschien waren dat ook de reden, dat ik nooit eigenlijk de beschrijving van het boek heb gelezen. Eerlijk, ik had een totaal ander idee van wat dit boek eigenllijk inhield. Dit was niet wat ik had verwacht, maar dit boek was oprecht fantastisch. Ik begrijp volledig waarom het zo vaak wordt aangeraden.

Jammer genoeg vond ik de 'plot twists' wat te gemakkelijk te raden en had ik vrij snel een idee van wie de personages werkelijk waren (

oké, behalve een personage. Namelijk Piranesi zelf

). Dit zorgde ervoor dat het verhaal soms wat te weinig impact had. Toch bleef ik graag door lezen.

De filosofie en verwijzing naar

de Grot van Plato

kon ik alleen maar apprecieren. Het boek past het concept op een unieke manier toe. Wat zorgt voor een leuke interpretatie. 

In de toekomst wordt dit boek een klassieker en ik kan niet wachten om dit boek nog eens te lezen en te zien wat ik nu allemaal heb gemist.

This book encompassed everything Taylor Swift. Personally, I feel like it leaned a bit closer to a biography, than a book focused on her fashion. It certainly came with analyses of era's and their outfits, but I guess I expected more? 

Ik weet niet precies waar ik moet beginnen. Dit boek is goed, prachtig zelf. Het mysterie achter de dood van Vivek Oji (geen spoiler, het is de titel van het boek!) zorgde voor een emotioneel verhaal, met zwarte en LGBTQ+ personages. Innerlijke conflicten, taboos en het niet begrijpen van elkaar komen aan bod. De ontknoping en emoties, wanneer alle puzzelstukjes in elkaar vallen zorgen voor een triestig einde. 

De uiteindelijke verklaring van de dood van Vivek stelde me een beetje teleur. Stiekem had ik misschien iets dramatischer verwacht. Aan de andere kant moet de dood van een queer personage niet gruwelijk zijn om impact te hebben.

In elk geval vind ik het belangrijk om te leven over ervaringen en plekken over de hele wereld. Er zijn plekken op de wereld waar je jezelf niet mag zijn en het blijft belangrijk om divers te blijven lezen.

This is very dense and surrealist. Not for me at this moment. 

This book took me by surprise. I wanted to read a book about a man escaping the world by going to Andorra (the Andorra in this book is not the same as the actual country - however I dare say it makes sense in the context of the story (

the main character is writing this from prison and has only read about the country

). I did get that story, but there was another plotline that made this read more exciting. It’s very subtle, but it’s fun. There are a few unresolved things at the end, but you could see it all as a part of the open ending. 

The writing was not bad, but nothing spectacular. I enjoyed reading this book. 

Niets revolutionairs wordt beschreven in dit boek. Trillen van spanning zal je niet doen, maar het beschrijft een mooi portret van een koppel, dat naast elkaar is gaan leven en elkaar enkel terugvind in korte uitingen van liefde. De eerste 80 pagina's gaan wat traag, maar daarna begint het verhaal te groeien. Geen van de hoofdpersonages zijn perfect, maar dat maakte hen realistisch en menselijk. 

Geschreven in een schrijfstijl dat ik zelf typisch Nederlands, sober en gegrond, is dit een prima boek om te lezen. Zeker een aanrader.

This book had been on my TBR for a while and it was worth the wait. It was beautiful and emotional. It explored people, art and relationships in so many ways. It had so much sadness and a few hints of joy. There were some shocking moments and plottwists, which made me  gasp out loud a few times. 

There was a plot line i could have gone without, since I felt it to be too dramatic to fit with the rest of the story. Other than that, it was a near perfect book.

As a lover of books about vampires, it only made sense to read the classic. I had read a simplified English edition for class once, but I picked it up again to read it in my own time. I like the first half a lot. 
The part in Dracula's castle was mysterious and gave me slight horror vibes. The visit of Dracula in London and everything with Lucy was also enjoyable to read, but the quest of killing Dracula took a little too long. The characters felt lively and distinct. I absolutely loved the Harkers.

There could have been some parts cut there. I would have liked to know more of the vampire lore and the wives in Dracula's castle, but I get that's not the point of the story.

The book lost its plot after 30 pages and it was a drag to read. I didn't care about any of the characters and found them very one-dimensional. There were tangents about writing and the meaning of something, but they dragged along with this empty story. The final chapter connects the underlying threads of plot and feelings, which were kind of interesting, but were wasted if you look at the story in its entirety. This wasn't for me at all.
