This was fun! It felt more like a vignette than one contained story arc, but it worked for me. I really enjoyed the absurdist comedy element - especially in of the rat and influencer story at the end. If more of Lamar Giles' Static comes out, I'd definitely read it.

I LOVED the worldbuilding in this, the plot worked great for me, and I really liked how the relationship between Karys and Ferain grew over time. The -0.25 is that the characters could have been better developed, but I had a great time and read it in less than 24 hours. I do really wish I'd known before reading that it's the first in a series, so wanted to mention that for anyone reading reviews before they read the book.

Good but not great. I enjoyed the reading experience of this, but in the end it just didn't fully come together. I think it could've been better as a duology or trilogy with more time to flesh out the characters and worldbuilding. As it is, everything felt kind of crammed in without too much depth. I did enjoy it though, and I'm interested in reading her series.
