Fantasy horror is a genre I need more of. This book was a wild ride from beginning to end. Swan manages to fit a great amount of rich world building in without bogging the story down with unending details. The characters are well fleshed out, unique with clear motivations, and I loved the foreboding undercurrent mixed with bursts of gore and horror. Looking forward to the next book in the series and will definitely be checking out the author’s backlog.

3.5-4 stars. I’m left with a LOT of questions. You won’t end this book having a clear understanding of why things were happening and there are a lot of loose ends, but it was compelling and scary, and I had a fun time reading it!

While not at all a bad book, this one did not live up to my expectations. The tone was the most serious of the 3 books, and yet the plot was quite light, the pacing a bit slow. We didn’t get nearly as much banter between Wendell and Emily, and the ending fell flat for me. K still love the writing style, the characters, and the world the story is built in.

3.5-4 stars. It was compulsively readable and I enjoyed it even if I wasn’t totally wowed by anything.
