The Raven and the Dove by Kaitlyn Davis

I love the tragic story of Tristan and Isolde and I was ecstatic to discover that there’s a new retelling book inspired by T&I and the beautiful cover art intrigued me more.
However, I was disappointed.
To explain why I gave this book a low rating, here are a few points:
• The progression of the story was slow and I have to admit I ended up skimming many pages because I was bored.
• The only likable character was Xander, because we saw more of his feeling and thoughts while Rafe was a bland character and Lyana was simply selfish and nothing she did lessens my intense dislike towards her. Also, there was barely any proper character development
• The plot was under-developed and melodramatic.
• The magic system is confusing and it did not stir my curiosity.
• The ending wasn’t executed well and it did not redeem the book for me. As if I read all those pages while being bored out of my mind only to be provoked to the point I am unwilling to follow their journey into the second book.
• The romance is far from the angsty passionate love of Tristan and Isolde. I’m a romance enthusiast and the romance in this book failed me, it did not tug at my heart strings or make the butterflies flutter, it did not stir any feeling in me except that it was bad.
I really wanted to like this book, because all of the points stated above it took me a while to finish it. It kept on dragging and I forced myself to finish it once and for all.

I was looking for a light romance but I ended up reading what apparently is a lighter version of 50 shades of grey
