Such a cute, quick and touching read to kick off the year with! The illustrations are beautiful and truly bring the story to life. Many moments of kicking & giggling, and just enjoying the tenderness between these two characters as they help each other navigate through their changing emotions and perspectives towards one another. Not the biggest fan of the cliffhanger, I am really looking forward to continuing this series & will be picking up the second book on my next book store trip! Didn’t quite give me the 5 star feeling, but there so many more books in this series I have a feeling it’s just around the corner.

I personally enjoyed this book, and found it to be a very quick, informative, reflective story that highlights the expectations and treatment of women through the eyes of “authority” figures - including just men as a general population as if they in themselves were an institution like the catholic church. The writing did fall a little flat for me in some moments, and overall it was an experience that felt dissociative in a similar way to my perception of our main character. I felt as if the story wasn’t completely seen through, and was unsatisfied with the ending - which very well may be the point, and I respect that. I would recommend this book to readers who are looking for a fast, poignant novel to question their own morality and the good vs evils in the world.
