Nothing happens for half to most of this too long book except stupid romance tropes that don't make sense given the fantasy setting. Unnecessary twee pov character. Hated it. Hated every second, but it is somehow unputdownable. I don't get it. Still hated it.

It's fine but too much teenage angst doesn't go away just because the characters are 20+ years old.

The main character Stef is amazing and I love him. I also think he should have taken off running because his love interest Rand, isn't right in the head. But Stef and the other characters are honestly worth reading for, they are delightful. Unfortunately, the love interest Rand is the least developed and the most awkward. The sex scenes are entirely skippable, but I enjoyed all the other parts. I was a little disappointed they took a shortcut to the end of family secrets and land grab machinations.
