Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated
4.5
Excellent author!!! The writing is so good! I didn't love the characters, but I didn't hate them either and they were well-developed (at least Lucy was).
This book was interesting, but a bit long for the subject matter. It also felt more like a loosely-tied-together collection of essays rather than a cohesive book. I don't mind that format, so it was okay for me, but others may not appreciate it. There were lots of interesting tidbits here, but I didn't love it as a whole.
The concepts are okay, but could have been a series of about five blog posts. She said a few good things that I appreciated, but I didn't really enjoy the author's tone (that may be more about me than her though). I won't be keeping this book or recommending it to anyone.
This was an excellent book about grief and how complicated a mother-daughter relationship can be. Although I am fortunate enough to still have my mother, and our relationship isn't nearly as complicated as the authors and her mothers, this book still rang true. I especially enjoyed the food descriptions, the cultural descriptions, and the author describing how she tried to fit in.
This is a very helpful Christian growth book. It has earned a place on my shelf, and I anticipate reading it again. I definitely am seeing change in my life as I put these principles into practice.
