This book was really funny and I loved reading about the little twists and turns the romances took. But it was way too long.

"Thruth is a rhizome - an underground plant stem with lateral shoots. You need to dig deep to reach it and, once unearthed, you have to treat it with respect"

This book is AMAZING, perfect, stunning. It left me ugly crying by the end. The Island of Missing Trees uses ecology/botany to mirror the experiences of human trauma, which makes it so unique and captivating. I also found myself learning a lot, both about history and ecology.
It tackles subjects of grief, war and intergenerational trauma, but also of love and family. I want to recommend this to EVERYONE (seriously, this is gonna be a staple birthday gift from now on). One of the best books I've read, ever. Can't stress enough how much I loved this book.

A striking memoir from a voice that needs to be heard. I especially love that Samra Habib doesn't limit this book to her own story, but weaves in the perspectives of people she's met along the way. As a non-muslim, I also found this book gave a great insight into the struggles queer muslims face. Often touching, at times difficult to read, but mostly a wonderful exploration of indentity and the healing of trauma.
