The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien

I'm a huge fan of the Lord of the Rings films. After seeing the Balrog on the trailer for the Fellowship, I just had to go and see it (I love anything that looks remotely like a dragon). I have all the films and then them all again in limited edition box sets with a trinket box of Minis Tirith that sits pride of place on my computer desk.

Even though it took me a good while to read this book and I only started to really enjoy it around 300 pages in, I found this book well worth the wait. This is my second attempt to read this trilogy, the first time I didn't get very far into the Fellowship before giving up for something a little less heavy. I have wanted to read Lord of the Rings for about a year now and finally picked it up in March, reading it in between other books.

I'm not one for books that are overly descriptive but I found once I got used to it, I became to enjoy the precise description. There are so many beautifully worded sections of the book, I couldn't pick my favourite. I tried to follow Tolkien's descriptions of places and people rather than relating to the films and although I did slip back to the films occasionally, I created my own Middle Earth.

I'm having a break before I start the Two Towers but I cannot wait to carry on with the trilogy. It makes me wonder why I waited so long to pick these up.
