Funhouse by Diane Hoh

point horror books weren’t a thing growing up in denmark but i’ve managed to find a few in thrift stores in england — including this one and while it’s not amazing to read at 31 it was still fun.
i can definitely see how they’d be more fun when you’re young and into horror. despite the cheesy dialogue and unrealistic teen talk, it does have its creepy moments and it was definitely a perfect spooky read for october.

The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling

this was so absolutely mediocre in every single way — the romance, the smut and the plot all felt so poorly executed. it very much felt like the author wasn’t sure which way they wanted to go, so they just half assed it all?
i’ll admit it’s not a terrible book, it’s actually fairly easy to get into and it takes zero brainpower to get through in no time. but that’s probably also because it’s not that well written or well thought out. i’m not one to judge a book by its smut, but like you either gotta commit to the spice or just not write it — not to mention, smut and no plot has a time and place, but these people threw logic out the door to fuck for a few weeks and it literally threw me off wondering if i’d somehow skipped a chapter? like keep on motion yall.
it’s a 2,5 stars for me just because it really didn’t do much and i didn’t care about the flat af characters all but at least it was a perfect read for my fevered brain.

i love toxic queers 💛
this was vile and absolutely gross to read — so perfect in every way.
i loved the slow but steady decline of the main characters mental state, how there’s such subtle reveals to her state of mind and that it just culminates into All That. it’s just a wonderful read and i’ll definitely be reading this again in the future!!

i didn’t know this was a wattpad story originally but i’m honestly not surprised??? despite that, it was actually entertaining enough and i could hardly put it down. the audiobook narration was great.
it’s a pretty basic ya fantasy story and it’s like being back in the early 2000s again. but sometimes that’s the kind of book you need — it’s fun, silly and actually has a plot (even if it’s a thin one) and there’s obviously a romantic subplot and some daddy issues. it’s 10/10.
it’s the first time in years i’ve also finally finished a book in german so god bless this silly little book for making me excited for german again — i’ve already bought the second book lmao i can’t wait to see what’ll happen next.

The Half-Orc's Maiden Bride by Ruby Dixon

ruby dixon is truly our times greatest author. there’s no one creating entertaining stories quite like her 🫡
i’m still not used to listening to smut in public but damn do the narrators do their jobs to the fullest — and the story is exciting enough to listen to as well, like genuinely hilarious at times. i must read more ruby dixon!

Chopping Spree by Angela Sylvaine
3.75
i read the original chopping spree when it was part of rewind or die and while i love angela sylvaine’s writing i didn’t love chopping spree the first time around — reading this new and improved version though, boy is it a perfect 80s mall horror!
chopping spree takes all the things you love from the 80s like a killer soundtrack and a mall to die for and gives it’s a modern look — with a murderous twist 🔪
there’s actual character depths, ye old teenage fear, build-up to something bigger and some kills that are to die for 🩸 and it genuinely feels like a clear improvement to the original one especially with the characters. which makes it worth reading if you’ve read the OG chopping spree!
if you’ve not read it before, but love 80s horror, teen slashers and thought the fear street films on netflix were great you’ll absolutely love chopping spree (and honestly, the cover makes it worth buying anyway!)
// thank you to the author for the ARC and sorry that life got in the way of me posting a review sooner. loved it!!
