The Chaos of Stars by Kiersten White
4.0
The first time I read this book, I got about ten pages in and gave up. I left it on my shelf for a week before I decide to give it another go. And I'm so thankful I did! I have now read this book too many times to count. I've read it into the wee hours of the night and hated my life the next day, but it is so worth it.
I know that this review probably won't even come close to giving this book justice. So don't take my word for it (or anyone elses), on whether it is good or bad. This book really is too unique to base your opinion off of anyone elses. My advice, just read and find out for yourself. But I will bet you won't regret it.
Now, I won't go into a retelling of the story because it is definitely one you should read for yourself. I will however go into some details about what made it amazing.
Isadora is one of the best main characters I've ever seen. She's like a typical teenager, moody and hates her parents, but she's also rather unique (she's an Egyptian and a child of gods for one). Her personality has the right amount of snark that will not only make you love her, but wish to be as witty as she is! She's relatable and was very easy to connect with. She also likes interior design and has an obsession with the stars, which is rather unique for her punk-rock, sass master, attitude. I just thought she was very well designed.
This book has a very interesting take when it comes to Egyptian mythology. Kiersten White did so much better with putting gods and culture in our present world than Rick Riordan did with his Kane Chronicles. Trust me, that world building is worth the read.
At the beginning of each chapter, Isadora, starts us off with a short little retelling of an Egyptian myth. What made this so great was her personality was clearly seen in the retelling. I don't know how many times it left me laughing or staring at the page in awe. The gods (and really all the characters) had amazing personalities and I loved the way the world applied to ours. It was just so well done!
This book was written with such beauty and grace. It's words left me breathless and stunned. Pretty sure my heart broke and reformed a thousands times throughout its pages. Kiersten White never ceases to amaze me.
Trust me, this book is definitely worth the read. So go! Be free my children! and read the beauty contained in its glorious pages

The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
3.0
Not the most amazing written story nor the most exciting plot. However, the take it had on the world was unique and made me feel infinite.
I Am Legend by Richard Matheson
2.0
I expected this book to be more exciting than it was. It had little action and a very slow moving story. It was so boring I had to force myself to pay attention. Although the concept is absolutely fascinating, the characters and plot do nothing to drive it. I was rather disappointed. The best part was the end - Neville's revelation.
November 9 by Colleen Hoover

The characters were well designed and the writing was amazing. My dislike comes from the story itself. Although the idea is adorable, their "instalove" made me want to gag. I hated how so much of Fallon's self confidence and recovery came directly from Ben. It's good that he helped and encouraged her, but she fixed herself with him, not becoming whole on her own. What kind of message is that? And the giant plot twist at the end? It just wasn't satisfying. I didn't feel shocked or surprised just disappointed that was the big secret. Colleen has amazing writing skills but I just wasn't impressed with the story.
And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie
3.0
I didn't think I'd like this book at first and almost didn't finish it. The beginning was so boring. I had to fight to pay attention and too many characters were introduced at once. But as it got father in, it didn't really matter as most of the characters died rather quick. The writing picked up and I kept reading. I'm glad I did. The idea behind this novel was absolutely fascinating and with each page I found myself more and more anxious to find out who the killer was. It was a good story overall and fast read.
Leah on the Offbeat by Becky Albertalli
3.0
Although not an exciting story because nothing really happens, it was a fast and easy read. Leah was a unique character but she just wasn't all that interesting. I liked it but I wouldn't read it again.
Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher
2.0
It was really well written and a fast read, but the way it presents depression, suicide, and rape are misconstrued. It gives off a damaging message, even if the main character changed his ways at the end.
