Ultimately this was a sweet read and I really enjoyed the couple. That being said, this book was really quite boring.

It was a slog to get through the middle and I found much of their internal dialogue repetitive. It took a lot of effort not to DNF 50% in. It picked up a lot after they decided to date forreal.

I’m torn with my rating because while the writing was pretty good and the story was interesting to read, a lot of the dynamics really turned me off.

This book spouts a lot on feminism and the struggles and unfair treatment of being an attractive, curvy woman in a male dominated field. While I agree with all of the points verbalized, I think the actions in this book undermine the points entirely.

We see the FMC be a damsel in distress at several points in this story and the not overly athletic MMC gets to miraculously be the hero and save the day. Literally grabs a snake by the throat mid-lunge like be so fucking serious. That’s only one example and not even the penultimate one.

Also during the big third act conflict, the MMC throws her femininity in her face, and while he apologizes, there’s really no repercussions. Actually, there’s no real repercussions for him at all and the FMC bails him out of a ton of mistakes.

I just don’t think I connect with Sharma’s writing style. It’s pretty cliche, however I understand that there is a need for cliche rom coms with diverse characters. I just don’t tend to enjoy super basic romance stories.

Weirdly, I enjoyed both of the characters, but I don’t think they made a good couple at all. I genuinely don’t think they’re compatible.

I didn’t love the wedding saboteur plot line and I don’t think the pay off was worth it at all considering that
I haven’t read the first book.

I did enjoy the complicated family dynamics while still showing that there was a lot of love between disagreeing members.

This isn’t the most action packed thriller but it was good enough and I read it quickly.

Such a good book with a really healthy and dynamic couple! Genuinely enjoyable from start to finish.

I didn’t love the parent trap plot line, but sometimes we revert to childish behavior when interacting with our parents, no matter our big ages.

Love the discussions and validations about bisexuality.

A unique romance where we get 3 POVs, one of them being the villain of the book. Romance almost takes a back seat to the overall story of growing up, moving on, and staying true to yourself.

Listen, the first 100 pages of this book are an absolute slog to get through. It’s hard to “Nina” be so played and made a fool out of. Once the jig is up the book gets infinitely better and I breezed through the rest of it.

I do think Nina and Hector are a well matched couple and even though he’s made serious mistakes, he was redeemed to me and I think deserved Nina’s love.

The world building could’ve used some work, I don’t really get the full idea about The Beautiful Ones, aka the namesake of the book.

TW: Lots of implications and discussions about rape, but the action is not on page nor is the word directly said.

My 2nd favorite of the series, I really loved this book. I really loved both of the characters and how they were able to really understand and help one another.

Nathair was so much more playful than I thought he’d be and he and Linh had a really fun and playful dynamic. This is one of the strongest pairings.

Only reason this isn’t 5 star because I would’ve liked to know more about the greater world/the demon king, which we haven’t gotten an update on for 2 books.

Looking forward to the next one!

I don’t know Emily Henry is capable of writing a bad book. That being said, this one just didn’t super resonate with me personally. At the end of the day I’m not totally convinced they’re each not just each other’s rebounds, but I do love the drama of it.

A very cute romance with a lot of love and likable characters. I’m a sucker for letter writing in romances and this didn’t disappoint.
