I feel like I should like this more than I did. The female rage was satisfying but it felt like a lot of work to get there. Some parts were creepy and atmospheric but so much just felt tedious to wade through and I just didn’t care much about a lot of the arcs.

Okay but this was cute! A bit fast as I’m used to more of a slow build. The relationship and watching both characters learn how to be vulnerable for the first time was cute.

This was a small slice of the overarching themes that were in Braiding Sweetgrass. Focuses more on the gift economy and our role in the world of reciprocity. Definitely recommend if you’ve read Braiding Sweetgrass but also think it would be a good introduction for the non-readers in your life that you can’t get to pick up Braiding Sweetgrass. Because it’s so short, it feels more manageable, but still packs a punch.

The beginning was a bit meh for me but as the mystery ramped up I liked it a lot more. The romance part was a bit unrealistic at times and Maggie annoyed me with how insecure she was about the dumbest things. Overall a fun time but not like heavy as a romance, definitely more mystery.

This gave me way more than the short story it’s based off of did. The horror and slow dread is really well done. The author compares this to Mexican Gothic and claims that book is better, but Mexican Gothic was trash and this is the far superior creepy mycology horror.

Not my favorite in the series but it moved the plot along significantly
