This didn’t disappoint, equally as good as the first. Once again, I raced through this in 2 nights, it was very fast paced and hard to put down.
The story dove straight back to the cave where, Maz and Reyna are in major trouble.

Reyna remains very stubborn and almost belligerent, her constant need to fight with words can be infuriating, especially when characters are trying to help her. She’s very hypocritical in book 2, she continues to chastise Maz to stay out of her head, whilst she chooses to keep her visions of him secret. Obviously, this blows up in her face and rightly so.
I still can’t work out what Maz’s end game is and, if he really does have good motives or not. He’s definitely a tortured soul, hurtling towards a dire looking fate, whilst relying on Reynas help.
One thing I’m certain of, is his step mother is barbaric. Hopefully her comeuppance happens pretty soon.

Warning ‼️ = another cliffhanger ending

This was a pleasant surprise I stumbled on. I devoured it in 2 days because, the story was constantly evolving at a rapid pace. I found it too hard to put down.
I was skeptical going in to this because, I’d recently read ACOTR series & thought this might be too familiar, or not as good, since I hadn’t heard much buzz around it….WRONG!! So far, the story is exhilarating.
Reyna, is a little annoying, in the way she has to fight absolutely anyone on anything. She just can’t learn to shut her mouth and stop making things worse for herself and her friends. By the end of the book though, I’d gotten used to it and settled in to her characteristics more.
Maz seems as deep as the ocean with a treasure chest stuffed of secrets. I suspect deep down he’s not a bad guy but, maybe he’s too accustomed at playing the villain? Either way, he’s met his match with Reyna.
I’m on to book 2 tomorrow, couldn’t resist with this one ending on a cliff hanger.

Good October read with its dark and menacing aesthetic.

This was a great October choice, it was a little like a grown up “twilight”. I thought the story was rich & the characters were very likeable. It also wasn’t drowning in smut. It had just the right amount of spice & anticipation without overpowering the plot.

Misery was a great character, her sarcasm & wit was endearing. The developing relationship between her & Lowe brought comedy, drama & lust. I was rooting for them to be together from the start. The more they connected with each other, the more they as individuals blossomed. Lowe was exactly the kind of guy every woman deserves…besides the whole wolf thing. I liked that he was strong & protective but never domineering or forceful with Misery. He was a great example of how sexy consent can be.

I really enjoyed this book, exactly for what it is, a supernatural, fantasy. As usual, anything that’s not a classic is slated by many, but I often wonder why these sort of people venture in to this kind of read? Surely after reading the blurb nobodies really expecting it to be a “Pride & prejudice”?
I completed this book in 2/3 days, it was a very easy read & i know it’ll become another comfort read.

I loved my first experience with kindle in motion. The colours were haunting and the illustrations were dark and beautiful.

Initially, I just wanted to reread ‘The Raven’ but, I enjoyed most of the other stories. I would have loved to have seen my favourite “Annabel Lee” illustrated by M.S. Corley.

Edgar Allan Poe possessed a natural born talent for lamenting all things dark and sinister, which i’ve been drawn to since my angsty teenage years, when I read my favourite quote of his -
“And so being young
and dipped in folly
I fell in love
with melancholy “

Overall, a very aesthetically pleasing book for October.

This was a warm, cosy read, exactly what I needed to end my reading slump of a few weeks now.
The romance is very cliche, but in reality isn’t this why most of us read these sort of books…? to make up for how starved of true romance we really are….?

The autumnal setting made this a lovely October read. It had that comfort to it, that shows like: Gilmore girls, Virgin River and Firefly lane have.

I liked the main character Jeanie, she was loveable, messy and completely relatable. The way she rescued her new cat Casper, was very cute.
I liked Logan too, he had his baggage but underneath it all he was caring and kind with good intentions.

Overall, a quick and easy read, perfect for autumn vibes.

Poor Clytemnestra, what a tortured soul. Forced by men to live a life of loss, brutality and grief. All she is left with, is her vengeance. She is intensely brave, strong willed and loving. She fiercely loves her siblings and children. I commend her for always supporting and loving her sister Helen, to me, it seemed Helen was the catalyst to all of Clytemnestras struggles. Had Helen refused Menalus as she was asked to do, perhaps Clytemnestra would have lived happily with her own little family.
If anything, this story reminds me how cruel life can be and that our actions, always have consequences for us & those around us.

Considering this novel was first published in 1917 much of its themes are relatively similar to today’s ongoing struggles. It’s still a man’s world, women are still treated as second class citizens & when it comes to women’s bodily autonomy…somehow men still control that too.
I had read somewhere this book was Wharton’s most erotic novel written but even the most prudish amongst us would struggle to find anything more salacious than a few sexual innuendos.

I really enjoyed this book, I’d have given it 5 stars if it wasn’t for the ending which was open ended.
It’s definitely a southern gothic thriller with an underlying supernatural element.
It’s set in a religiously zealot small town, the author does a great job of describing the hot, humid, swampy, surroundings of the Deep South.
Ruth, the pastors daughter is naive, submissive and too easily influenced. Her blind ignorance towards her surroundings irritated me a lot.
I was very drawn to Evers’ character, a tormented soul who’s been mistreated his entire life. His vulnerability around Ruth is endearing & balances out his lingering darkness.
I see a lot of people slating the Twiligjt references but what they don’t get is that young girls are drawn to books like that and figures Edward Cullen because it’s a love interest outside of society and morality. This cries out to a girl like Ruth confined by religious beliefs & restrictions. It’s no wonder she looked at Ever, as her idea of a dark romance waiting to save her.

Overall, I really enjoyed the book.
It was hard to put down at times and I raced through it.
