a mixture of prose and verse that very poignantly creates the atmosphere - one of longing and heartbreak and healing. there were a few poems that didn’t fit with the rest and it sometimes pulled me out of the story. even so, i highlighted a lot of lines in this one and plan to come back to them in the future. highly recommend!

such an intimate and beautiful portrayal of falling in love. there were times i felt like i was intruding, watching something i shouldn’t be. but there were also times i felt like i was falling in love right along with the author.

incredibly cheesy. the main character was a bit of a pick-me-girl for most of the book. and the miscommunication after the characters had agreed to communicate better was kind of annoying. other than that, a quick, cute, well-written read! enjoyed the smut, even the spicy-sweet first time scene.

it took me quite a while to get into this book, mostly because of the sometimes overwhelmingly flowery prose, and i very nearly DNF’d it at about 28%. honestly though, i’m glad that i stuck it out to the end. i really enjoyed the rivals to lovers relationship between effy and preston and the dark academia vibes. but what i loved most was how this handled the harsh truth of life after sexual assault, the way it portrayed the reality of sexism and living in a world ruled by partriarchal rules, and that it gave me the ending i hoped for; albeit one that feels impossible to obtain in real life. a slow but decent read!

i truly loved everything about this book - the humor and witty dialogue, the characters and their growth, the enemies to lovers romance, the emails between alex and henry, the escape from reality it provided. honestly, a country with ellen claremont as president is a country i would love to live in. this book was just a great read all around.

enjoyed the tension and fast friendship between rosie and lucas. wish there had been more to lucas’ story, considering the dual pov; as well as some of the plot points that felt out of place and were left open at the end. overall, a good read and a cute romance!

the whole girl-scout-meets-monster-slayer aspect was amazing, really drew me in and kept me hooked. the monsters were gross and creepy, the characters (mostly) loveable and relatable. i felt like there were some similarities to buffy the vampire slayer, mostly in the whole “why are young girls responsible for this?” aspect of it all. really great read!

i was really looking forward to this collection but i was honestly a little disappointed by it. there were some parts that were really good, like hit you in the face, make your chest ache good. the rest were just okay. maybe i built it up too much in my head.

seeing the truth behind something that brought me joy and that i genuinely think shaped me, my personality, and my sense of humor was rough. i hate that something that was like this for me was like that for the actors that i looked up to when i was younger. jennette’s journey to healing was poignant and beautiful.

the fact that in this world, books and libraries and houses are sentient beings because of all of the magic laid into them for centuries is one of the reasons i enjoyed it. seeing more of that in this novella was wonderful. also i have to make this known: silas is my favourite character.
