i really really enjoyed this one! i listened to it all in one day and ate it up. i’ve never read/watched pride & prejudice *gasp* so i can’t comment on the retelling / reimagining of that story! there were so many sweet moments, and i loved the author’s note at the end.

regency-era queer books are just so lovely. i def recommend this one!
The Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston

i genuinely didn’t think ashley poston could make me feel the same way about a book as i did with the seven year slip, but wow, was i wrong. i honestly couldn’t even tell you if i liked the seven year slip or the dead romantics more. poston is just SO good at seamlessly weaving magical elements into her stories.

this book had me on the verge of tears the. entire. time. grief plays a huge role in this one, so heads-up if that’s a heavy topic for you, but it’s handled so beautifully and just made me feel even more connected to the story.

don’t get me wrong, i adored florence and ben, but their relationship definitely leaned into insta-love territory which isn’t usually my thing. that said, poston is an absolute master of her craft, and i devoured every page.

was it predictable? yes. did i care? not at all. sometimes, you just want a story that delivers exactly what you hope for in the best way possible.

if you love romance with a touch of magical realism, ashley poston is absolutely your girl.
