Really enjoyed this book and the love story. My only real gripe is that the British character used a lot of random words that looked like they'd been picked from a thesaurus.
Miranda July writes fiction that gives you every single feeling across the spectrum. I found myself laughing, gagging with repulsion, enchanted by love, disgusted by relationships, and fascinated with the blurring of maternal love and romantic love. I don't really know how I feel about this book but I know that I devoured it and loved every minute of it.
Rooney's writing isn't great but I do love her character exposition greatly and really loved Alice. The book's ending is somewhat ruined with 2 perfunctory chapters referencing the pandemic.
This book was an alright read but I couldn't look past the explicit and totally unnecessary ableism, nor the repeated use of the word 'queer' to mean strange or odd. Incredibly white with limited characters of colour. A disappointing read that doesn't fit into a 2021 climate.
