I couldn’t stop, I just couldn’t stop. It made me feel alive, it made sad, happy, I felt my guts go upside-down with emotion. Thank you for this.

I feel like the idea of this dystopic future ,on which the book is based, is interesting but oh my god it’s so slow and non engaging and not entertaining and I just couldn’t bare the writing style aahhhh

Did not finish book. Stopped at 14%.
Barely readable, I was curious about the hugely famous « La disparition » but the story is barely a story, it’s just disturbing, mazed, and boring

I know this a literary piece of art but the amount of church and religion talk was just too much for me, I was so tired of sermons and prayers and Jesus and who knows what else. The deep story was extremely interesting and touching though. I’m looking forward to read other works from Baldwin.

Great work, but I didn’t feel like this was revolutionary in any sense. I don’t mean that essays HAVE TO BE exceptional though. I loved the ability of the author to just let their feelings be seen by everyone. It was a beautiful thoughts collection, and it did make me reflect on myself, so : mission accomplished.
