this may be my favorite tvc book. it's crazy but dark but sweet but funny. it had me laughing and crying. simply the mention of Claudia makes me cry.

"Louis begging Jesse politely to describe one more time the apparition of Claudia. And Jesse's voice, solicitous, confidential: "But Louis, it wasn't real.'

I like reading old feminist books and comparing my thoughts as a 21st century feminist. this was fine. basic. maybe it would be good for someone who is more amenable than me.

the end was a bit disappointing but I think writing the end of this book to be a herculian task.

this is how I want to read history. so many books about history are dry and lack joy in reading. not only was the story being told interesting the writing was amazing. this book is a great tragedy from start to finish and it's amazing.

add to the list of books that if I had read as a teenager would've held a mirror up to me that I would not have recognized in myself. ocd is a crazy complicated thing that has patterns but is so different to everyone.

I hated this book. very much babies first feminist literature. and boy is it bad.the author had a point she wanted to make before she had a plot and forced the plot to form her thesis, despite contridicting itself all the time. it's incrediblely gendered, hierarchical, dichotic and matrimonial. it's supposed to preach balance and harmony but instead preachs man bad, woman kind. Lilith as a character is a sock puppet and any man she interacts with is bad unless he is good than he can say anything he wants. it's samael he's a creepy awful character. not good.

I don't like giving books 5 stars for any reason other than nostalgia. but it is hard to read this book, understand where madeleine is coming from, and see it as anything other than pretty perfect.

i love all these kids.
I did not think that this book would make me reflect on the ethics of prison, rehabilitative justice, or the power of forgiveness but here we are.
