I thought this book would be light and fluffy, and it was for about the first two-thirds, until it took a turn I wasn't expecting. While I didn't like the turn at first, it did make the book's message about love and our choices about love much stronger. Overall I really enjoyed this story, the writing style, and the characters. (And the dancing! Though I wish there were more dance scenes.)

I wouldn't say I enjoyed this book, because it dealt with some very dark material that I wasn't prepared for, but the story was intriguing and I'm glad I finished the book. I'm interested to know what happens to the characters as the trilogy continues. I haven't decided if I will pick up the second book yet because while I am intrigued by the story, the first book was a challenge to get through because of some traumatic elements.

Continuing to love this series. I can't say much without spoiling the plot.

Nick and Charlie's love story is just as sweet as every reviewer has said, and my favorite parts of the story were their interactions with each other as they fell in love. I do wish I had looked up the content warnings before reading though, because while there were some light & fluffy elements to the book, there were also some darker elements that were difficult to read, and I would have liked to be prepared for that.

I really enjoyed this story, and I loved all of the characters. I'm also so glad this book exists.

The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating by Elisabeth Tova Bailey

I loved the memoir aspects of this book, and reading about the relationship between Elizabeth and her snail, and how they kept each other company during a lonely and challenging time in Elizabeth's life. While I also enjoyed the scientific facts about snails in the middle of the book, that part read more like a research paper, and I thought the memoir elements at the beginning and end were the strongest and most beautiful aspects of the book. I'm glad I learned more about snails, but I wish that part had been shorter.

Very enjoyable so far! As a reader, I'm very much enjoying reading about another fellow reader who owns her own book cafe and can do a little magic. I'm excited for volume two, however, I hope that the plot and the characters become more complex as the story unfolds.
