UPDATE 12/24/24: I obviously dnf'd this last year, and I would have been fine had I never returned. tbh there was no reason for this book to be over 300 pages, and once I hit that last 80 pages knowing I was about to enter the third act conflict I was just wondering why I still had so much to go. all this being said, there is nothing wrong with this book besides being a bit too long, and it just didn't work for me (maybe it's bc I'm fem4fem so I just can't get into a heavily butch love interest idkidk). i am interested in the third book in this series, partly bc the cover is divine, partly bc I would love to see Tara as a main character.

12/20/23: dnf @ p. 140

this is a soft dnf. I'm going to keep this until next year and see if I want to give it a second chance. but for now, I'm already in a slump and it just made it worse. while I've been currently reading this book I have not even wanted to pick up any book at all.

I think especially after reading Out on a Limb by this author, this needed to be a full novel. the character development just wasn't there. it was one jump to another. like yeah, sure, my sapphic awakening was a similar abrupt realization, but it had taken more than literally one thought to figure it out. everything in this novella just moved too fast. I wished everything would slow down. I mean the two parties that cause them to fake date in the first place are barely in here. it's mostly just sex, but not great sex.

sometimes you start reading a book from the library by a man about a female protagonist. sometimes that book immediately has a flashback to when she is a minor and can't stop thinking about making out with her roommate. sometimes you protect your peace.

it's not you, it's me. I firstly, was misunderstood about the plot. my bad. so as I read and readjusted my expectations, I realized I just didn't care and didn't want to be reading it. sure I could push through, but for what? sucks because this is signed and personalized, but maybe one day I'll come back

the reviews for this are so harsh for no reason. this book is FUN! why are y'all BORING?? this is a cute debut that is a fun time. is it perfect? of course not. take a look at that conflict. but is it f-u-n? well, yes. name another reason to read a rom-com. I'll wait

I'll go ahead and take book two thanks.

no but I didn't even realize this was a series so when we get to these last few pages I'm just here panicking and googling whether this is gonna get a book two.

when this book comes out in feb y'all better pick it up. if you liked A Deal with the
Elf King or A Court of Thorns and Roses then this is for you.

this is like one step away from being considered cozy fantasy, but it is definitely a cottage core romantasy like it's been described.

on one hand, I'm excited to be able to read this early courtesy of Satisfiction, but on the other hand I'm gonna have to wait sooooo long for the next one omg

everybody has their things. mine is writing. the writing of this is so offensively simple that I have trouble imagining that the characters in this book are 17+.

after reading some reviews, you either loved it and see nothing wrong with it at all, or you rate low or dnf because the writing is bad. figured I wouldn't waste my time
