despite a couple of moments n characters that made me uncomfortable, i loved the prose this book had and thought the overall story was very interesting <3 love historical fiction
i love stories about love <3 was hooked from the start and i love the way bolu babalola weaves together her stories. wasn’t familiar with most of the myths prior to reading so it was nice to be introduced to them as well!
going to start writing reviews for books lol i love the way carmen maria machado writes!! the first three stories were so compelling to me but after the length of the svu story, it was hard to get through and remain hooked for the rest :( will have to revisit later!
was cool seeing the events of the ot from different points of view and how rebels/imperial officers act in regards to the war. rly wished it was an adult novel or even a short story, perhaps that would have allowed for better insights on the realities of coming to terms with being a part of a fascist regime and justifying how one stays in it despite knowing what they are doing is wrong
deeply personal as well as brilliantly written. such a unique structure and form of storytelling that at times felt like i was reading a horror novel, one of my favourites read this month!
a super interesting look on the history and etymology of cults and how the language we use shapes not only shapes experiences with them, but also gives insight on how important our vernacular is!
