I loved the subtle foreshadowing interweaving the folklore character of Nicnevin with the more science fiction narrative around their true identity…
Pearl really grated on me early on in the book, I think the high level of damsel like naivety alongside the very knowledgeable didn’t settle well for me until she took some more agency. Though she
did again annoy me believing Sebastian and falling on his penis when he showed a tiny portion of interest in her
, however in the long run she came out of the other side well.
Mabel was such an interesting character and the idea of the “ghosts” in her body was a great metaphor,
for the trauma response.

The world building is scarce, the protagonist feels basic, the dialogue is unerringly repetitive and without character, the instalust without reason, the “women said he was”, the insane kooky coven. 
I just couldn’t stand it anymore.
