You distract the oxygen in my cells with how precious you are. I don't mean to hurt you for my own enjoyment. There's a difference between teasing you harmlessly, and causing you pain. I go too far sometimes. I don't know when I have until it’s too late, But, Amber." I look back at her. "You can alway tell me, and I will correct or explain myself. You're my wife. You are dear to me.

this is why you don’t judge a book by its cover because this book was so good! my only complaint is that the cover doesn’t really do the big any justice. i love heroes like liam. it was never explicitly mentioned, but to me he belongs to the antisocial personality disorder spectrum. this book isn’t a dark romance, so he’s not completely “evil” but there are things that you will see him do that doesn’t really fall inside of the norms.

besides that, i also loved how quirky and unapologetic liam was. this is the guy who still loves barbie movies and has stuffed animals in his bedroom but it doesn’t make him any less sexy. i also loved amber and could relate to her inner struggles with writing and also her height (i’m her height).

this book couldn’t be anything more than a one-star because it was so unbelievably bad! i don’t even know what i just read. there was no rhyme and rhythm to anything, and i felt like i was given an incomplete book.

first of all, we don’t know why owen was so obsessed with kira—it literally made no sense. the first few chapters were basically of owen reiterating over and over again how kira belongedto him. it was all, “you’re mine, you’ve always been mine” like a broken record. like okay, sure. but why? why do you like this girl so much? except for some generic explanations, i just didn’t see it. it would be great if the authors did a better job at setting up some foundation for these two, but i guess they didn’t care enough to write anything more in depth.

second of all, owen raped kira. and just in case it wasn’t bad enough, he had other men gang rape her too! it was appalling. i couldn’t help but laugh at how owen decided to avenge kira and redeem himself. he did that by hurting all the men who raped her—the same group of men he told to rape her. like? okay.

he also made kira rape him too! if that could even be called that since he consented to it. overall, what a horrible book!

i thought the romance part of this book was a bit corny. however, i did enjoy the other parts; particularly about catie learning her native language and discovering her heritage.

i have been busy at work lately, and this was one of the books i managed to pick up in between hours. the five stars is completely warranted by the way, because this book made me laugh so hard. surprisingly funny for a children’s book. or maybe i’m the one who needs to read more children’s book.

”It was funny, but in this moment she had the strongest sense of clarity she'd ever felt. She knew exactly what she wanted out of life, where she wanted to be, and with whom. She loved this crazy little village.”

it took me quite a long time to finish this book. i would say it was a cozy read, but perhaps, it was too cozy? i don’t know. i loved the concept of the helper home, a tea shop, an amnesiac romantic interest. however, i found myself snoozing a lot. maybe it just wasn’t for me.

as i mentioned, i picked up this book because of the cute cover but other than that, this book fell short.

it was just as cute as the cover, but there wasn’t much going on. a little meet cute between the leads, insta-lust, they had sex. she became pregnant, they met again after months and decided to give their relationship a go. definitely didn’t wait long to jump each other’s bones again.

that’s it. i can see how this book would appeal to some. hell, it would probably appeal me to on a different day and time. unfortunately, i just wasn’t in the mood for it.

How was it possible that not so long ago, she’d thought this kind of romance was as fake as the cardboard crown on her head? Dreams did come true, lives did start anew, and right in Chicago, she’d found her very own knight in shining armor.

i’ll be honest, the story started out corny, especially when emily started getting tingles in between her legs just because she saw griffin as a statue. mind you, this happened on the first page. i just about gave up then and there.

i’m glad i didn’t though, because the story shaped out to be super cute. i enjoyed seeing griffin learning the ropes in the 21st century, slowly adapting his manner of speaking (which i thought was adorable btw) to the current era to fit in. somehow, she and emily worked out well.

overally, i enjoyed this read! recommended for fans of the knight before christmas and that new netflix snow man turned man christmas flick i forgot the name of.
