Celaena just can’t stop herself from getting into trouble. She survived - and won - the competition for her freedom, but she is actively risking it all by defying the King’s orders and faking a multitude of deaths. She’s also actively ignoring the feelings she’s developed for the Captain of the Guard, even though it’s painfully obvious to everyone but Chaol.
My angel baby Kale Chip is stressed the hell out. He’s worried about Celaena, worried about Dorian, and responsible for the security of the whole palace. Dorian is also at the end of his rope. Weird things are happening in his body (spoiler alert - not some weird late puberty) and he’s starting to realize he can’t stand idly by while his father continues his reign of terror.
Nehemia and Elena are scheming and trying to prod Celaena into action by giving her vague hints and teaching her magical hieroglyphics, but all she wants to do is read and shop. Which is super relatable.
My love for Chaol is at an all-time high in this book. What a babe. And if you say you didn’t love him in CoM…you’re a liar.
Time to go hurt my own feelings repeatedly with The Assassin’s Blade now. Send help.

𝑾𝒂𝒔 𝑰 𝒐𝒈𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂𝒏 𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒆𝒏? 𝑴𝒂𝒚𝒃𝒆.
At this point, I’m honestly ready to fight someone if I don’t get my own personal alien mate.
Piper wakes up on an alien planet inhabited by big green orcs, and her first reaction is to go on a Hot Girl Walk and fool around with one of them in the woods. She then decides to take off on her own little adventure to obtain some alien anti-anxiety tea, despite having no idea how to survive on her own. What a legend.
It’s a good thing Agnarr, the sexy lumbersnack, is onto her shenanigans and follows her to make sure she doesn’t end up a human popsicle. He also happens to know where the sexiest caves and log cabins are along the way 😏 Agnarr has been looking for his mate his whole life, and he’s pretty sure this sassy human is it. He just has to prove it to her, and his village.
This was such a sweet, funny, STEAMY monster romance. I had a great time and immediately picked up the sequel.
