Nuclear War : A Scenario by Annie Jacobsen

This book should disabuse anyone of the notion that nuclear war is a figment of the Cold War. It makes a convincing case that even with competent, rational, moral leadership and the appearance of technological superiority, the US is at risk not only of a nuclear strike, but of a catastrophically miscalibrated response. Reading this a month before a US administration takes over that is as far from competent, rational, and moral as possible makes it even more terrifying.

I don't think anyone could write a scarier fictional horror book if they tried.
