With this book, Alexandra has solidified herself as my current favorite historical romance writer.
I love everything about this book: the writing itself, the juxtaposition of the "socially awkward but trying to be brave" FMC with the "seemingly brute but tender and hurt at heart" MMC (both so well crafted), the longing between them, the sexual tension.. and! if the romance wasn't enough, we also get a very engaging mystery subplot, great side characters, and historically accurate details about the politics at the time.
I seriously couldn't recommend it enough!

I loved this book! A great childhood best friends to lovers story, with many sweet (and spicy) moments. The only reason why this doesn't get five stars from me is the fact that the previous relationship subplot was a bit too fast for me, from her figuring out what happened to her, accepting it, and then her being ok and back to normal, with little to none lingering effects, less than a month after it.

Magic, Lies, and Deadly Pies by Misha Popp
She acts as if she is morally superior, but then she approaches Daisy under false pretenses, outs her murder business with no second thought, crashes Daisy’s big event (that she was against to begin with) and kisses her in front of the guy she knows is there with Daisy, kidnaps the guy so Daisy can murder him when she said repeatedly she doesn’t want to do it 🙄🙄🤬🤮
Oh no, Daisy might not hate her but I do. The fact that by the end she’s still present in Daisy’s life is mind-boggling to me and I’m irrationally angry that the door was left expressly open for a romance between them in the future, and made me not want to read the rest of the series.

This book could be a five star for me if it wasn’t for Melly.

third book in the series, third five-star read for me 🌟
This book has all the staples I’ve come to expect from the Rome series: the charming townspeople, the heart-warming relationship between the Walker family, the lighthearted feeling of the writing, the comedic moments.
This book also deals with heavier topics than previous book, and a little more in-depth, but still it’s very much a rom-com.
Because of the way Emily presents herself, I can see how the beginning of the story might not cast the best light on her, but it’s the journey of discovery the reader needs to go as we are getting to know this character, and, imo, it’s done very well. (All of this to say: if you find her a little bit annoying or overbearing at first, please stick with it!)
There’s nothing else to say except go read this book and this entire series because it’s worth it!!
