A really fascinating, short read. This was so different, in such a wild setting, than what I'm used to. The gore was there, the reasons were there, the way a siren (mermaid?) was taking over the land was there. I just wanted more- but thats the beauty of this, it's just a glimpse into what is happening.
I love them all and I want nothing but the best for the two main characters. But, damn, that ending was ruthless for part of the Squad. I hope they all find peace. This was beautifully written and the art and aesthetic is so nice.
The hell. Anyway. The first half was soooo good. The second half was a bit harder to get through, but when it was finally loosely tied together, it was alllllmmooooossst fulfilling, but not quite.
Not blown away. Not sure what was happening. Definitely a fever dream. Constantly expecting things to come to a head, some big thing to happen. I dont think it ever does. That said, something named fever dream, I didn't expect anything other than something absurd.
Love! Some of the recipes I will never, ever, ever make. But the photos, the stories, and the recipes are all so good! I can't wait to actually try out some of the food!
Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated

The Boatman's Daughter starts slow, in the first chapter, but from there it goes FAST. Intertwining stories, all in a fucked up small town, blend together to create the narrative of Miranda Crabtree and her fight for her found family. This was WEIRD, but I loved learning the Slavic folk lore within. I wanted nothing more than the best for Miranda, Littlefish, and the girl, and I think thats what kept me reading. I loved this, even the fucked up bits that made me squirm. Not for faint of heart, will make you squeamish and also cry. Spoilers: My only grievance is that some of the folklore mmonsters felt really shoed in. Even when there was a setup for them, there weren't enough signs that, hey, maybe this wasn't just a murder, maybe there was more to it. Still, at the end, everything got tied together.
