I enjoyed this deeper dive into Joe Pike and letting him take the starring role for a change. A fun ride.

This book is so weird. It has a promising beginning but then it just beggars belief. And instead of delving into any characters and their thought processes, it’s just a lot of planning and filing of legal briefs and just… weirdness. I wanted more tension and character depth.

These books are fun reads but I do have to continually remind myself how long ago they were written and that casual sexism and very un-PC conversation was de rigeur back then. Also I’m super curious to see just how many mafias this dude can mess with before getting himself killed. Book 1 we had Spanish mafia, book 2 was yakuza, and this book was good old NY mafia. Still though — I do think there is hope for Elvis Cole to achieve some personal growth as he reaches the turn of the century.
