It was an easy read, if predictable. The twists at the end felt surprisingly cheap for a Freida McFadden book. And Polly’s ending was not believable to me. Still, I enjoyed it and the characters were all very well developed with strong and diverse personalities.

I mean, it was *fine*.
The plot meanders quite a bit and as always I never know who 2/3 of the characters are so it doesn’t really hit me all that meaningfully when they’re killed off.
It was equal parts entertaining and frustrating, with a predictable ending. Mostly read this one out of FOMO, and I anticipate that will be the case with the rest of the series.

A Summer at Sea by Katie Fforde
Did not finish book. Stopped at 14%.

This was so utterly banal. The writing was bad, I was not interested in the plot or the characters at all. It felt like a book written by a teenager so I was shocked to see how many books she’d already written. Maybe something for an older generation?

These loveable characters were bursting with life and the chemistry was off the charts. I’m always a sucker for the enemies to lovers trope, especially when you throw in the trope of fake dating as a double whammy (although Lina really made me want to bang my head against a wall at several points).
This would have been 5 stars except that the book could have been an easy 200 pages shorter if it cut out all the overly descriptive language. I get that it’s trying to paint a picture, but it felt like every minute change of body language was being analysed through this whole book, and I got a bit tired of hearing about the “funny look I couldn’t quite recognise in his eyes” all the time. It was great to get the full picture of each scene but it felt like it often got in the way of the pacing of the dialogue.
Overall, a nice, cute read with some great characters and a fun premise.

Mostly enjoyable read and I loved the setting. The ending took me by surprise but I think that’s in part because it didn’t feel authentic to the characters.

Well if I didn’t know Colleen had a breeding kink before, I certainly do now.
